  3. Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT DO I NEED TO JOIN / BECOME A MEMBER?

If you are an active full-time student:

  • A valid student ID with a current sticker, or a temporary student certificate.
  • If your student ID does not have a valid sticker, you must also provide a certificate of school attendance or proof of student status in addition to the student ID when joining.

If you are a passive full-time student:

  • In this case you do not have a valid sticker, so you must present both your student ID and a certificate of school attendance or proof of student status when joining.

How is payment made?

Your working hours are accounted for on a timesheet, which is verified by your workplace supervisor. Payday is no later than the 10th day of the month following the reporting month. If this falls on a weekend or public holiday, payment is made on the preceding working day at the latest.

What should I do if I have a payment complaint?

Your individual agreement includes the name and email address of your coordinator. Please contact them with any payment complaints.

What should I do if I haven’t been paid?

First, check the following: Make sure you have submitted a correctly completed and approved timesheet. If you have, inform your coordinator immediately so we can investigate the delay.

Is the wage on the website gross or net?

On our website, hourly wages are shown as gross amounts. If you are under 25 years old, your gross wage equals your net wage. If you are over 25, a 15% income tax is deducted.

How much is deducted from my salary?

From your first payment, we deduct a membership fee of 200 HUF, which is refunded to you upon leaving the cooperative. In addition, a 15% personal income tax (PIT) is deducted for those who are over 25 years old.

I’m between 25 and 30, still studying, and expecting a child. Am I eligible for the PIT exemption for mothers under 30?

Yes, you are entitled to the exemption. You can download the declaration form HERE.

Can I get a proof of income?

Yes, please contact your coordinator about this, or send an email to info@pannondiak.hu.

Where can I find my payslip?

When your contract is signed, you’ll receive an automatic username and password via email, which you can use to log in to the Personline portal. There you will find your current monthly payslip.

When and where should I submit my timesheet?

Please send your completed timesheet for each worked month by the last working day of the following month to the PannonDiák Student Cooperative via email at jelenleti@pannondiak.hu.

Do I have to file a tax return? Will you do it for me?

Yes, even student workers must file a tax return. The Hungarian Tax Authority (NAV) prepares a draft tax return for everyone, which you can view via the Client Gateway (Ügyfélkapu) at eszja.nav.gov.hu. The necessary document will be sent automatically to your provided email address at the beginning of the year, by January 31 at the latest.

Breaks for workers under and over 18 / Night shifts

It’s important to know that employees under the age of 18 are considered “young workers”, and the Labour Code provides them with stronger protection:

  • Night work (between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.) and overtime cannot be assigned.
  • The daily working time may not exceed 8 hours. If the worker has multiple jobs, the working hours must be added together.
  • A maximum weekly working time frame of 1 week can be applied (this is the period within which working hours may be distributed unevenly).
  • Young workers are entitled to longer breaks and rest periods than adults.
  • If the scheduled working time exceeds 4.5 hours, at least 30 minutes of break must be provided.
  • If the scheduled daily working time exceeds 6 hours, the break must be at least 45 minutes.
  • A daily rest period of at least 12 hours must be provided (that is, there must be at least this much time between the end of one workday and the beginning of the next).
  • Weekly rest days and rest periods cannot be scheduled unevenly.

For students over 18 years of age, the rules differ as follows:

  • Night work is permitted.
  • If working time exceeds 6 hours, at least a 20-minute break must be provided; if it exceeds 9 hours, at least a 25-minute break is required.

Can you provide internships?

Yes! Most of our partner companies help students complete their mandatory internships, and our colleagues handle most of the administrative tasks for you.

It’s important to check the specific internship requirements at your university, such as:

  • How many hours, days, or weeks your internship must last.
  • Whether you can complete the internship through a student cooperative.
  • What documents are needed before starting.
  • How many days or weeks before the start of your internship you must submit the required documents.

If you’d like to complete your internship through our cooperative and you’re already working with us, please inform your PannonDiák coordinator at least 3 weeks before the start of your internship.

What is the difference between registration and membership?

Registration is your expression of intent to work—it lets us know online that you want a job. During registration, you can specify which of our offices you’d like to work through, what kind of jobs interest you, and when you’re available to work. A member of the cooperative is someone with whom we have established a legal relationship through a participation agreement and a membership declaration.

I’m already a member of another student cooperative. What should I do?

You can be a member of multiple cooperatives at the same time—there’s nothing else you need to do.

What type of employment do I have?

The Student Cooperative employs its members under a contract for services in accordance with Act X of 2006, the Cooperative’s Statutes, and the relevant provisions of Act V of 2013 (the Civil Code). Before starting work, a framework agreement must be signed, which is valid until the expiration of your full-time student status or student ID.

The Student Cooperative and the member specify the details of the job—such as work location, position, and payment—in an individual agreement. Since this is not an employment contract, student jobs do not include notice periods, exit paperwork, or sick pay.

How does the selection process work?

After applying, our recruiters will contact you within 2 working days via one of the contact methods you provided. After that, your application will be forwarded to the partner company. During the selection process or for an interview, either we or the partner company will contact you directly.

How are candidates selected for a job?

If the position requires specific skills or knowledge, our service team will first assess your qualifications, then forward your CV to the partner company. Sometimes, the partner may invite you to an additional professional interview.

Is the job done on weekdays or weekends?

You can always find this information in the job description. Most internship-type jobs take place on weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. For occasional jobs, weekend or afternoon shifts are more common. These details are always clearly indicated.

How many hours can I work per week?

That depends on your availability and class schedule. For internship positions, the typical expectation is 20 hours per week, but you can take on more hours if agreed with the company.

I applied for a job but haven’t been contacted. What should I do?

Our recruiters usually reach out within one working day after your application, but depending on the job type, it might take longer. Sometimes, our partner companies take a bit more time to respond, so please be patient. If it’s been a while since you applied, feel free to contact us at info@pannondiak.hu or by phone.

I accepted another offer or changed my mind — what should I do?

No problem! Just let your coordinator know in time so we can continue the recruitment process smoothly.

Who should I inform if I want to quit?

Please notify the coordinator of your current job as soon as possible (their name and contact details can be found at the bottom of your work agreement or with your on-site supervisor). Contact them to discuss your last working day and any remaining tasks. It’s best to inform them at least 5–8 working days in advance if you plan to finish your job.

How do I cancel a shift?

If you need to cancel your shift, please email your coordinator at least 48 hours before your scheduled start time.

From what age can I work?

At PannonDiák Student Cooperative, you can start working from age 16—and from then on, there’s no stopping you! We offer a variety of opportunities throughout your studies, so you can even start building your career here.

By law, student work is permitted from the age of 15 during school holidays, provided there is parental consent. Each job listing clearly indicates whether the position is available to students under 18.

To work as a student, you must have active full-time student status, which must be verified with your student ID.
You can work with us whether your student status is active or passive.

  • If you are an active full-time student:

You need a valid student ID with an up-to-date sticker, or a temporary student ID. If your student ID does not have a valid sticker, you must also provide a certificate of enrollment or proof of student status upon joining.

  • If you are a passive full-time student:

In this case, your student ID will not have a valid sticker, so you must present both your student ID and a certificate of enrollment or proof of student status upon joining.

Can I work if I study abroad?

Unfortunately not. Currently, only students enrolled in educational institutions in Hungary are eligible to work through us.

Other important information

You must verify your full-time student status by March 31 and/or October 31 each year with one of the following: a valid student ID, temporary student ID, or an original certificate of enrollment issued by your school.

  • If for any reason you cannot fulfill your agreed work commitment, please notify your coordinator at least 48 hours in advance.
  • Your working hours are recorded on a timesheet, which must be verified by your workplace supervisor.
  • Payday is no later than the 10th day of the month following the reporting month. If this falls on a weekend or public holiday, payment will be made on the preceding working day.
  • Based on your annual earnings, our cooperative will send you a tax certificate by January 31 of the following year, which you’ll need to complete based on your personal income tax return (taking into account any other income you may have).
